Our client is a key player in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry in Cape Town.They specialise in the outfitting of marine vessels and offer a unique turnkey solution starting from the basic design to the manufacturing and installation of all living quarters, all HVAC & R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) and all piping works. They are looking for a capable Carpentry Foreman to join their growing team.
10 years + of experience as an artisan working on furniture.
5 years + of experience as a carpenter working with both laminated boards and solid wood.
Experienced and well versed in:
Creating cutting lists
Creating a Bill of Materials (BOM)
Building accurate jigs
Working to tight tolerances (+/- 1mm)
Setting up processes for repetitive works
Ability to train and upskill other artisans and carpenters via on-the-job training Competent and able to train others on lamello-biscuit joints, dovetail joints, half lap joints, mortise and tenon joints.
Competent and able to train others on panel saw, mitre saw, plunge cut saw, drill press, and edging machines (handheld or edgebander – they use both).
Competent and able to train others in the proper glueing and clamping of work pieces.
Worked with and managed teams of 10 artisans or more.
Experienced in working with documented quality control systems, documented workpiece inspections and usage of quality documents/templates.
All candidates that make it to the second round of interviews will be invited to perform a carpentry test at the client’s premises for evaluation purposes.
