Job Summary
The Chrysalis Academy is a non-profit organization based in Tokai (Cape Town) offering a three-month residential youth development program for youth of the Western Cape. The program is holistic and trauma-responsive. It is based on discipline, structure, order and routine.

Chrysalis Academy, a smoke, drug and alcohol free organization seeks an energetic and highly motivated Individual for its position of Chief Executive Officer on a three-year renewable contract

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Basic Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Purpose:

To lead and manage the Chrysalis Academy and all its strategic and operational business units by providing strategic direction, inspiring leadership and creating a vision for ongoing growth and development in pursuance of holistic youth development.

Requirements:

● A relevant Masters’ Degree in management, social sciences, development studies, or a related field.
● Extensive (over 15 years) leadership and management experience in a non-profit, youth development, advocacy, or social justice organization. Relevant corporate or public sector experience will also be considered.
● A proven track record of having cultivated relationships of deep trust, respect, and mutual understanding with key stakeholders within the NGO and youth development sector.
● Experience in policy advocacy, governance, and stakeholder engagement.
● Proven track record in governance, leadership, fundraising, donor relations, and financial management.
● Experienced professional, respected in the field, with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships at all levels of government, donor organizations, community-based organizations, and the commercial sector.
● A valid driver’s license is essential.
● Experience of working within a holistic and trauma-responsive framework
● Fluent in at least 2 South African languages.
● Non-smoker and of sober habits.
● Embody self-care and therapeutic practices.

Key performance areas:

● Provide overall leadership and strategic direction in alignment with the Academy’s vision and mission.
● Oversee financial and operational management of the Academy on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
● Cultivate relationships with International organizations, national, local and provincial government departments and other NGO / NPOs to
achieve the CA’s vision, mission, strategic goals and objectives.
● Ensure the Academy follows good governance principles and practices.
● Develop and implement fundraising strategies for financial sustainability.
● Manage donor relations, oversee proposal submissions, and monitor budgets.
● Ensure that all organizational policies and procedures are adhered to.
● Oversee program and service planning, execution, and evaluation.
● Ensure the implementation of the Western Cape Safety Plan project.
● Support the student program through counselling, facilitation or coaching.

Skills and competence:

● Strategic leadership and visioning skills to drive the organization’s mission.
● Able to motivate and continue to build a strong team within the Academy in harmony with its overall principles.
● Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, auditing, and financial planning.
● Excellent fundraising and marketing skills, including proposal writing and donor engagement.
● Strong governance knowledge and ability to oversee compliance and risk management.
● Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with relevant experience in public speaking.
● Stringent organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
● Excellent report writing skills.
● Well-developed computer skills (PowerPoint, MS Word and Excel).
● Excellent facilitation skills.
● Experience in managing a Multimedia Hub would be advantageous.
● Excellent interpersonal and social skills.
