The Directorate of Curriculum Development and Support (CDS) within the Higher Education
Development and Support (HEDS) division has a one-year fixed term Curriculum Development
Practitioner (CDP) position at PL8, to function at any of the TUT learning sites (N.B. Currently
the position is based at the Pretoria Campus, but the incumbent may be allocated to or be
stationed at any of the TUT campuses as and when the need arises).
INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to submit, together with the CV’s, a standardised

qualifications and identity document. Failure to comply with this instruction will disqualify the
candidate. Further note that candidates may be expected to make a presentation or undergo
competency testing.
Critical Performance Areas:
A Curriculum Development Practitioner (CDP) in this directorate is required to function effectively
in all of the core functions as listed below. However, based on the specific needs of the directorate
at any given time, an incumbent may be requested to specialise in one or more of the fields and
may be dedicated to any one of the functions listed below:
• Curriculum Development:
o Provide leadership and specialist educational support to faculties with regards to
planning, designing, implementing, monitoring, reviewing and evaluating curricula for
new and existing qualifications and learning programmes on the Programme
Qualification Mix (PQM), including foundation programmes and short learning
programmes.
o Contribute to the design, development, review and implementation of policies,
strategies, plans and procedures relating to curriculum development.
• Professional Development:
o Coordinate, design, develop, facilitate and review the professional development
initiatives offered to academic staff of the university.
o Coordinate, design, develop, review, organise and facilitate short learning
programmes on curriculum development, teaching practices, assessment,
development of study guides, academic leadership, student success rates, recognition
of prior learning or any closely related field.

• Research:
o Lead and participate in research on higher education development and support,
curriculum development, academic staff development, assessment strategies and
reviews, teaching reviews, student success rates, recognition of prior learning or any
closely related field.
o Lead and support research informed teaching and learning activities.
• General administrative duties:
o Perform administrative duties related to the core functions of curriculum development,
staff development and research.

Minimum Qualification:
• A relevant Masters degree qualification in Education, Curriculum Studies, Higher
Education Studies or a closely related field.
Minimum Requirements:
• Three years’ experience in curriculum development, professional development of
academic staff, as well as teaching, preferably in higher education.
Minimum Knowledge and Experience:
• Understanding and experience of curriculum development and support in the context
of the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework (HEQSF) and other relevant
national policies and legislation.
• Understanding and experience of research in higher education, with particular focus
on curriculum development, assessment reviews and the examination of teaching and
learning practices will be an added advantage.
