Description
The Department of Environmental, Water, and Earth Sciences, in the Faculty of Science,
requires the service of MODULE MARKER/S for EWE - 2026
Key performance areas/Core functions:
1. Assessment of Academic Work:
• Evaluate student assignments, exams, projects, and other academic submissions according to predefined criteria and learning objectives.
• Ensure assessments are conducted impartially and adhere to established grading guidelines.
2. Quality Assurance:
• Collaborate with internal academic staff (subject head) to maintain consistency and accuracy in assessment practices.
• Participate in standardisation exercises to calibrate grading standards across multiple markers and ensure fairness.
• Identify and report any irregularities or concerns regarding academic integrity or assessment procedures.
3. Timely Feedback:
• Meet deadlines for grading assignments and providing feedback to students.
• Communicate assessment outcomes effectively to the relevant subject head.
4. Professional Development:
• Stay abreast of developments in the field of education and assessment methodologies.
• If needed, engage in training sessions or workshops to enhance assessment skills and familiarity with university policies and procedures.
5. Communication and Collaboration:
• Maintain open and professional communication with academic staff, administrators, and fellow markers.
• Address queries or concerns from students regarding assessment outcomes in a timely and respectful manner.
• Collaborate with colleagues to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to assessment practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Highest qualification ADVANCED DIPLOMA and registered in 2026 for POST GRAD DIPLOMA
/ MASTER’S OR DOCTORATE in Water Science and Technology.
• Previous experience as a tutor, lecturer, or researcher.
• In-depth knowledge of the subject area.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in assessment practices.
• Familiarity with university policies and regulations regarding academic integrity and assessment procedures.
• Computer and Internet skills
• Have your own desktop computer or laptop and internet connectivity (no computers or data bundles will be provided).
• Advanced communication skills and proficiency in English.
• Digital literacy skills – competent in ICT and online learning environments.
• Knowledge of the LMS (Brightspace will be an advantage).
• Commitment to marking and meeting deadlines for all assessments
