Description

The Department of Architecture and Industrial Design has a four-year fixed term position for a Senior Lecturer in the
Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the TUT Pretoria Campus.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
• Academic teaching activities include design, construction, technical drawing, presentation
techniques, professional practice and other subjects that are consistent with the needs of the
Department.
• The lecturing modules include a combination of the following Foundation modules (but are not
limited to the listed items):
• Foundation Architectural Design I (ACDF05P)
• Foundation Architectural Language and Presentation Techniques I (ALPF05P)
• Foundation Construction I (CSTF05P)
• Foundation Technical Architectural Drawing I (FDTF25P)
• Foundation Professional Practice I (PFRF25P)
• Coordinating the undergraduate and/or postgraduate selection process.
• Coordinating the full year programme of the year group in which the successful candidate will be
teaching.
• Contribute to the development of the Foundation studio modules.
• Act as supervisor and/or design mentor for students in the master’s degree programmes and
assist with student consultation.
• Evaluate students on a continuous basis as well as administer tests and assignments according
to study guides.
• Setting, preparing and conducting high quality lectures for specific modules.
• Marking of assignments, tests and conducting practicals throughout the year.
• Participate in department and other meetings.
• General admin duties
• Infrastructure development and management for curriculum advancement.
• Community projects, industry liaison and managing selected departmental portfolios.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. Academic qualifications:
• A PhD degree in Architecture (NQF level 10).
2. Experience:
• Three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in Architecture at Lecturer level within the subject
specialization fields of Foundation- design, construction, technical drawings, professional practice and
other subjects that are consistent with the needs of the Department.
• Proven post-graduate supervisory experience in architecture for a Senior Lecturer.
• Proven track record of peer-reviewed journal publications and paper presentations at conferences for Senior Lecturer.
• Experience of managing academic matters, programme quality, student affairs, human resources, facilities, finances, and research projects.
• Previous industry liaison and involvement are recommended.

4. Registration with a professional body (SACAP):
• Registration with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) is
recommended, within either the category of Candidate Professional Architect (Cand PrArch), or
Professional Architect (PrArch).
