We are looking for a reliable, friendly, and hardworking Hardware Assistant with Cashier Knowledge. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional customer service on the sales floor—assisting with product selection and technical questions—while also managing checkout transactions accurately for our client based in Durban CBD.
Key skills:
Customer Service & Sales: Greet customers, provide product information, and assist in locating hardware items (tools, paint, building materials).
Cashier Operations: Process cash, credit, and debit transactions using our Point of Sale (POS) system, ensuring accurate pricing.
Transactions: Issue receipts, refunds, changes, and process returns or exchanges.
Cash Management: Balance the cash drawer at the start and end of shifts and report discrepancies.
Stock Maintenance: Assist with merchandising, stocking shelves, and ensuring the sales floor and checkout area are clean and organized.
Sales Promotion: Inform customers about promotions and up-sell or cross-sell products when appropriate.
Requirements:
Experience: Proven experience as a retail cashier or sales assistant, preferably in a hardware or DIY environment.
Product Knowledge: Basic knowledge of hardware products and tools is highly advantageous.
Skills: Strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and ability to operate POS systems.
Physical Ability: Ability to stand for long periods and lift items up to 25-40 lbs.
Attributes: Friendly, professional, reliable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Availability: Flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
Education: Matric/Grade 12 certificate.
Must be fluant in English and Zulu
