The Department of Fashion Design in the Faculty of Arts and Design has a permanent position for Senior Lecturer at Arts Campus.

INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to submit, together with the CVs, a fully completed standardized application form available from the university’s intranet, as well as recently certified copies of qualifications and Identity Document. Core functions:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Teaching, Learning and Assessment for research methods course/module and other theory up to Doctoral level.
• Teaching and assessment for CAD/CAM, Pattern Technology, Manual grading and digital grading with the use of Lectra software.
• Supervision of Masters and Doctoral students
• Research and Innovation (Article writing and initiation of innovative research projects).
• Quality promotion of teaching and learning activities in the department.
• Participate in curriculum development and non-curricular activities, including short courses, business initiatives, Fashion shows and exhibition.
• Attend all departmental functions, staff meeting, etc.
• Initiate and participate in Community Engagement projects.

• Responsible for organising the execution of timetabled practical productions across undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
• Active involvement in departmental, faculty and institutional activities, committees and projects, contributing to academic citizenship beyond minimum role requirements.
• Industry liaison and involvement in Advisory committees, industry collaborative agreements and community-based projects.
• Contribute to sustained creative outputs and/or research publications, including DHET-accredited outputs, conference proceedings and/or recognised creative work.
• Demonstrate engagement in scholarly activities, including conference participation, reviewing, editorial contributions or involvement in
• academic/professional bodies.
• The capacity to generate research funding, grants and/or awards where applicable.
• A leading role in collaborating and facilitating teaching and learning strategies across all MPP studies, including module or programme coordination where required.
• As Senior Lecturer, this position will be responsible for academic, research and technological excellence.
• The candidate is expected to meet the required thresholds of the Senior Lecturer Scoresheet as per university policy.

Minimum Requirements

1. Academic qualifications

• NQF Level 10 qualification in in film, video, television or audio-visual theory and practice or a closely related field.
• A formal teaching qualification or evidence of teaching development will be an added advantage.
• A strong record of research outputs and/or recognised creative practice.

2. Experience

• Three (3) years teaching at a Lecturing level.
• Postgraduate supervision experience, either as a main or co-supervisor, with evidence of student progression or completion where applicable.
• A sustained publication record in DHET-accredited/peer-reviewed journals, books or conference proceedings, and/or recognised creative outputs.
• Papers delivered at national and/or international conferences.
• Evidence of continuous development of teaching materials, curricula and assessment practices over time.
• Experience in academic coordination (module/qualification level) will be an advantage.
• Rating as a researcher by a scientific or other funding agency will be an advantage.

• Membership or active involvement in national and/or international boards, societies, councils, etc., in the field of film/video/television will be an advantage.

 

Knowledge and Skills

• Advanced computer literacy and experience in LMS systems, including compliance with institutional teaching and learning requirements.
• Advanced skills in film/video/television equipment, systems and software relevant to the teaching field/s.
• The ability to teach a variety of courses offered within the undergraduate and postgraduate programme.
• Demonstrated ability in curriculum development, continuous improvement and alignment of teaching, learning and assessment practices.
Proven research capability, including:
• Peer-reviewed publications and/or creative outputs.
• Conference participation and scholarly dissemination.
Evidence of academic citizenship, including:
• Committee participation.
• External moderation or examining.
• Programme reviews or professional engagement.
• Ability to engage in industry, community and professional projects aligned with the discipline.
• Leadership and managerial skills, including the ability to contribute to academic coordination and programme development.
