Qualified Diesel Mechanic (Experience Required)

F-David’s Transport Services (Pty) Ltd t/a D-TRANS is seeking a skilled and reliable Qualified Diesel Mechanic to join its workshop team in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town.

The successful candidate will diagnose, service, repair and maintain diesel vehicles, workshop machinery and related equipment in accordance with operational and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting vehicle faults; performing servicing, repairs, preventive maintenance and road tests; identifying and reporting additional faults; and conducting routine checks on oil levels, air brakes, lubrication, batteries, nuts, bolts and other components. The role also includes ensuring that vehicles, machinery and equipment remain safe and operational; creating and maintaining service schedules and workshop records; communicating with operations managers; managing parts, consumables, tools and equipment; conducting stock takes; sourcing quality parts at competitive prices; training staff in the safe use of vehicles; and maintaining workshop housekeeping, security, safety and quality standards. The successful candidate will also monitor workshop costs, assist with budgeting and costing, and ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and operational procedures.

Requirements

Applicants must have 3–5 years’ experience as a diesel mechanic or in a similar role; sound knowledge of diesel engines, vehicle servicing, diagnostics, repairs and fault-finding; and good written and verbal communication skills in English and Afrikaans. Candidates should be proactive, motivated, detail-oriented, customer-focused and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Reference checks will be conducted.
