VACANCY: JUNIOR OHS OFFICER

Location: Beaconvale, Parow
Employment: Permanent | 3-month probation
Salary: R8,000 p/m (R96,000 p/a)
Hours: 07:00–17:00
Experience: 1–3 years

ABOUT THE POSITION

A multi-disciplinary construction company is seeking a motivated and organised Junior OHS Officer to assist with health and safety compliance across construction projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with implementing and monitoring Construction Health & Safety Plans.
• Conduct site inspections and identify unsafe acts/conditions.
• Follow up on corrective actions.
• Assist with risk assessments, method statements and safe work procedures.
• Assist with inductions, toolbox talks and safety awareness.
• Monitor OHS compliance by employees, contractors and subcontractors.
• Monitor high-risk activities including working at heights, scaffolding, excavations, electrical work, hot work and demolition.
• Assist with incident, accident and near-miss investigations.
• Maintain OHS files, records and reports.
• Assist with inspections, audits and close-out of findings.
• Monitor competency, medical fitness and required documentation.
• Assist with emergency preparedness and general OHS administration.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Current SACPCMP registration as Candidate Construction Health & Safety Officer (CHSO).
• Relevant OHS/Construction Health & Safety qualification.
• 1–3 years’ relevant construction OHS experience.
• Knowledge of OHS Act 85 of 1993 and Construction Regulations, 2014.
• HIRA, Legal Liability and Incident Investigation training.
• First Aid Level 1 or 2.
• Computer literate – MS Word and Excel.
• Good administration, organisation and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Valid driver’s licence.

ADVANTAGEOUS

Experience with high-risk construction activities, Working at Heights/Fall Protection, OHS files, inspections/audits, or school construction projects.
