Cost & Profitability Tracking, Payroll and SARS Compliance

Role Purpose
We are seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper to manage financial records across two related entities: a for-profit training Academy and an Institute delivering grant- and CSI-funded programmes.

The role covers day-to-day bookkeeping, cost and profitability tracking, payroll, SARS compliance and financial reporting. The Bookkeeper will also ensure shared costs are accurately allocated between the two entities.

Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Financial Records

Manage accounts payable, receivable and bank reconciliations.
Maintain accurate general ledgers and supporting financial documents.
Keep records ready for funder verification and audit.
Cost & Profitability

Track budget vs actual costs and margins per contract, programme and cohort.
Allocate shared costs accurately between the two entities.
Maintain cash-flow forecasts and flag potential gaps early.
Prepare monthly management accounts and cost/margin reports.
Payroll

Process monthly payroll and payslips.
Calculate PAYE, UIF and SDL deductions.
Maintain payroll records and leave balances.
Reconcile and issue IRP5/IT3(a) certificates.
SARS & Tax Compliance

Submit EMP201 and EMP501 returns.
Manage VAT, provisional and annual income tax filings where applicable.
Manage NPC/PBO tax compliance and Section 18A certificates.
Maintain SARS eFiling profiles and respond to SARS queries.
Reporting & Audit

Keep both entities' books audit-ready.
Support funder financial due diligence.
Maintain accurate records suitable for funder, auditor and SARS review.

Required Experience

Bookkeeping qualification or 3+ years' practical experience.
Hands-on SARS eFiling experience, including VAT, PAYE and income tax.
Payroll and payslip processing experience.
Experience with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, Pastel or QuickBooks.
Experience across multiple entities or cost centres is advantageous.

Skills & Attributes

High accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong understanding of SARS and payroll deadlines.
Able to produce clear cost and margin reporting.
Trustworthy with confidential financial information.
Proactive in identifying cash-flow, compliance and cost risks.
Advantageous: NPC/NGO accounting, PBO and Section 18A experience; donor/funder reporting; experience in a small business environment.
