CapeNature seeks to employ an experienced and creative graphic designer to join their Advocacy team. This role requires advanced experience in graphic design with a focus on corporate communication.
CapeNature is the Westen Cape’s custodian of its natural resources, inter alia presiding over 112 nature reserves of which 25 have a tourism footprint.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide a graphic design service to the Entity with a focus on corporate communication
Including, but not limited to the following: conceptualise and design corporate collateral such as statutory documents (e.g. Annual Report); corporate documents (e.g. integrated report, policy documents); branded material such as, promotional items and exhibition banners; corporate templates e.g. presentations, document covers, e-newsletters; creative design projects such as posters, flyers; infographics; design for web-based platforms. Project manage design requests.
2. Manage and translate the Entity’s corporate identity and brand into visual collateral
Manage, maintain, refresh and update the Entity’s Corporate Identity Guidelines. Design and write production specifications of all the Entity’s signage needs. Conceptualise and design visual collateral for all units within CapeNature ranging from info sheets, brochures, posters, infographics to maps, icon design and social media elements.
3. Manage outsourced design and production projects
Write specifications for outsourced design and/or production projects, review received quotations and make recommendations. Brief service providers, assist with project management and quality control. Advise partner organisations on co-branding requirements.
4. Maintain an artwork archive including an image library
Categorise, source suitable images on request, reformat, distribute imagery for design and staff needs.
REQUIREMENTS:
Relevant 3-year tertiary qualification in graphic design or closely related.
At least 6 years’ graphic design experience in a corporate environment or agency, EXCLUDING internships.
Proven experience in brand identity and corporate communication.
Experience in signage design will be highly advantageous.
Proven experience in translating brand identity into corporate templates and collateral such as signage, PowerPoint presentations, maps, infographics, posters, brochures, newsletters and digital elements for social media and website.
Expert in layout, design and typography.
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop)
Strong command of Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of preparing print-ready artwork for commercial printing.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong administrative skills in order to manage own workflow.
Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritise.
Must be able to manage workflow between Entity and agency
Excellent client relationship skills.
CV and Portfolio of Evidence of design projects to showcase skills and experience (no application will be considered without a Portfolio of Evidence).
Available to work overtime if need be (will be compensated).
Driver’s license.
Hybrid working: 2 days from office and 3 days from home (of which Tuesdays are compulsory)
Corporate hours are 08h00 – 16h00 Monday to Friday
RECOMMENDATIONS (will be advantageous, but not a deciding factor)
Experience in video editing, animation, illustration and/or engaging presentations.
Appreciation for photography and the ability to curate, source and edit imagery.
Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Experience in writing specifications for design and production projects and adjudication of quotations.
Experience in outdoor signage design and production.
Experience in interpretation signage.
Experience in project management
Maintaining an archived artwork and photographic image library.
Basic copy editing and/or creative writing skills.
Experiential use of AI
