The Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of ICT invites applications for the position of Full Professor at the Soshanguve South campus.

INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to submit, together with the CVs, scoresheet, a fully completed standardized application form available from the university intranet as well as recently certified copies of qualifications and Identity Document. Key performance areas/Core functions:
1. Teaching and Instructional Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver lectures in Computer Science at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Design, update, and enhance course curricula, incorporating
• contemporary practices and technological advancements in the field.
• Supervise and mentor students in their academic projects, theses, and dissertations.
• Conduct assessments, grade assignments, and provide constructive feedback to students.
2. Research Contributions:
• Engage in cutting-edge research in Computer Science, contributing to advancements in the field.
• Publish research findings in reputable DHET accredited academic journals as well as presenting at DHET accredited conferences.
• Secure research funding through grants and collaborations.
• Supervise and guide research students and postdoctoral fellows.
• Mentor and coach emerging academic researchers in the department on research and supervision.
3. Academic Service and Committee Participation:
• Participate in departmental, college, and university committees.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures.
• Engage in accreditation processes and curriculum review.
• Actively participate in departmental and university events and activities.
4. Professional Development and Collaboration:
• Stay abreast of the latest developments in Computer Science through continuous learning and professional development.
• Collaborate with industry professionals and academic peers for knowledge exchange and joint research projects.
• Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences relevant to the field.

5. Student Guidance and Support:
• Provide academic advising and career guidance to students.
• Support students in internships, job placements, and professional networking.
• Encourage and facilitate student participation in conferences, workshops, and competitions.
6. Community Engagement and Outreach:
• Participate in community engagement initiatives that promote the field of Computer Science.
• Collaborate with local industry and community groups to apply academic knowledge to real-world problems.
• Engage in public speaking and educational outreach activities to promote STEM education.
7. Administrative Responsibilities:
• Participate in the management of departmental resources and budgeting.
• Contribute to the recruitment and retention strategies of the department.
• Ensure compliance with university regulations and standards in teaching and research activities.
8. Innovation and Curriculum Development:
• Innovate teaching methods and incorporate technology-enhanced learning.
• Regularly update course content to align with industry trends and technological advancements.

Minimum requirements:

Academic qualifications:
• A relevant doctoral degree (NQF10) in the field of Computing (PhD or DComp with specialisation in Computer Science)

Experience:
• 5 years relevant experience at the Associate Professor Level and compliance with the policy on Academic appointments and promotions.
• Extensive experience in teaching at tertiary institution level.
• Proven record of supervision of Masters' and Doctoral students.
• Proven track record of research publications in DHET accredited journals.
• Evidence of presentation of academic papers at local and international conferences.
• Industry liaison and involvement in the development of new curricula.
• An NRF research rating is strongly recommended.

Knowledge and skills
• Management experience in an academic environment would be a strong recommendation.

Registration with professional body (if applicable):
• Memberships of professional academic bodies e.g. IEEE, Association for Information Systems (AIS) are strong recommendations.
