Purpose of the Role
The Porter is responsible for creating an excellent first impression for all guests arriving at THE Pretoria Hotel. The role includes welcoming guests, assisting with luggage, maintaining clean and organised public areas, and supporting the Front Office team to ensure smooth arrivals, departures, and guest movement throughout the hotel.
Key Responsibilities
Warmly welcome guests upon arrival and offer professional assistance.
Assist with luggage handling, including carrying, tagging, storing, and delivering luggage safely.
Escort guests to their rooms, ensuring they are familiar with room features (lights, TV, air‑con, safe, telephone, etc.).
Maintain lobby, entrance, and forecourt areas, ensuring they remain clean, neat, and presentable at all times.
Ensure luggage trolleys are clean and available throughout the day.
Provide directions and assist with guest queries, ensuring excellent customer service.
Support Reception with guest movement, special requests, and communication.
Assist with mail, parcels, and deliveries, ensuring correct distribution.
Monitor guest areas (lobby, parking, pathways) and report maintenance issues.
Ensure guest property is handled safely and stored correctly in the porter’s area.
Assist with guest transportation needs, including taxis, shuttles, and directions.
Maintain professional appearance and behaviour, representing the hotel’s service standards.
Minimum Requirements
Matric / Grade 12.
Minimum 1 year experience as a porter or in a similar hospitality environment.
Strong customer‑service orientation and professional communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and remain calm during busy periods.
Well‑presented, friendly, and reliable.
Physically able to handle luggage and assist guests safely.
