Description

The First Year and Foundation Unit has a three-year fixed term contract position for a
Lecturer at the Soshanguve South Campus to ensure the effective delivery of services to
the business units.
INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to submit, together with the CVs, scoresheet,
a fully completed standardized application form available from the university intranet as
well as recently certified copies of qualifications and Identity Document. Failure to comply
with this instruction will disqualify the candidate. Candidates may be subjected to
appropriate psychometric testing and other selection instruments.
Key performance areas/Core functions:
The specific roles/functions for the incumbent are to:
• To provide remedial lecturing duties for programming with Java language and
Computational mathematics: Theory, Tutorial & Practical through multimodal
delivery.
• Other Lecturing duties e.g., invigilating, marking scripts, processing marks on
learning management system, assess/moderate, online material development,
and video development.
• Attend activities of the Unit e.g., meetings, mentorship/tutorship panel interviews,
workshops, events etc.
• Pursue post-grad studies and engage in research and publication.

• Other relevant academic duties as required by the unit/academic manager e.g.,
curriculum review and development, module coordination and content
development.
Minimum requirements:
Academic qualifications:
• A relevant Master’s degree in the field of computing (NQF Level 9) in Computer
Science, or a Master’s degree in a related field with a Computer Science topic
• An undergraduate qualification with at least level 2 Mathematics or Programming
is required.
Experience:
• At least 3 years of lecturing experience in Mathematics and/or Programming,
and/or 3 years relevant industry experience.
• Experience in foundation / extended course lecturing will be a strong
recommendation.
• Lecturing experience in Java is a strong recommendation.

Knowledge and skills
• Competencies in high-level programming languages.
• Strong algorithmic foundation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Skills in assessment and curriculum development.
• Competence in the use of Learning Management Systems

• It will be to the applicants’ advantage if they have already completed TUT internal
training for part-time lecturing, assessment and moderation and curriculum
development.
