Description

The Department of Geomatics in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment has a position of a
permanent Lecturer at the Pretoria Campus.
Key performance areas/Core functions:
• Present lectures and assessment of students in related subjects
• Participant in the research activities of the department, maintaining a level of research appropriate
for the position.
• Administrative tasks related to research, innovation, teaching and learning activities.
• Ensure quality teaching and learning with technology
• Familiar with multimodal learning techniques
• Participate in/and or lead subject and curriculation committees
• Responsible for and provide leadership in compiling and maintaining quality study guides,
laboratory/practical guides, subject files and other teaching and learning material.
• Participate in departmental, faculty and institutional initiatives in collaboration with Technology
Stations, Centres, Institutes and Research Niche Areas
• Liaise with industry on course and subject levels regarding curricula, visits, research and other
interactions.
• Perform independent research and innovation projects and associated funding.
• Publicise research via conference presentations, publications in accredited and recognized
journals, and industry papers.
• Development and rollout of Geomatics related Short Learning Programs
• Have core knowledge in Geographic Information Sciences and Projection models of the Earth
(Geodesy).
• Knowledge of spatial data modelling using different software packages, artificial intelligence,
machine learning and programming.
• Maintain and develop relationships with industry, particularly relating to practical training, student
placement, educational advisory committee and joint projects.
• Participate in/and or lead community engagement projects
• Fulfil a leadership role in professional bodies and voluntary association societies.
• Represent the department and HOD in faculty and institutional committees

Academic qualifications:
• A Master’s degree (NQF 9) in Geomatics or related field (specializing in Remote Sensing,
Geographical Information Systems).
Experience:
• At least 3 years teaching and/or industry experience. Experience in in teaching geographical
information systems and map projections would be an added advantage.
• Experience concerning management of academic matters, quality of programmes, student affairs,
human resources, facilities management, financial management, and research projects will be an
added advantage
• Experience in the successful use of learning management systems will be an added advantage.
• Supervisory experience in industry and/or academic fields will be an added advantage
• Proven track record of journal publications and conference papers would be an added advantage.
• Experience in curriculum development and revision will be an added advantage.
• Experience of research and monitoring student centred research is recommended will be an
added advantage
• Known to industry as an expert capable of solving industry problems will be an added advantage
• Industry liaison and involvement in the development of new curricula will be an added advantage
• Knowledge of advanced Geomatics techniques and instrumentation will be an added advantage
