A vacancy has become available for Maintenance Assistant (Fixed Term Contract) from 1 August 2026 to 31 October 2026, based at Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring continuous availability of general building/electrical maintenance services for the Hospital infrastructure.

Critical Outputs
Responsible for all Maintenance related issues on a day-to-day basis
Responsible for all general maintenance enquiries relating to Doctors and Nursing staff
Execute repairs / tasks as per job card and instructions or Ad hoc request from line Manager
Provide line managers with relevant information as required
Supervise the daily inspection of medical gas alarm system and recording of medical gasses
Supervise the daily inspection of vacuum pumps, medical air compressor, plumbing and general maintenance
Follow up maintenance schedule for air conditioning and filters

Requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent
Experience in General Hospital maintenance, plumbing, painting, hospital beds, door locks, carpentry etc. would be advantageous
Knowledge of electrical / mechanical installations and maintenance thereof.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to complete tasks timeously and accurately and be able to work under pressure.
Eager to learn new systems and to accept work challenges.
Adhere to NOSA and OHSA acts.
Be in possession of a valid driver’s license.
