KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

General Maintenance & Repairs

 

Carrying out day-to-day building maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting work.

Repairing doors, windows, locks, tiles, ceilings, partitions, and hospital furniture.

Ensuring equipment such as hospital beds, trolleys, wheelchairs, and other fixtures remain functional.

Preventative Maintenance

 

Conducting routine inspections of hospital facilities (wards, theatres, offices, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.).

Identifying potential issues early and scheduling preventative maintenance.

Keeping maintenance records and ensuring scheduled servicing of equipment.

Plumbing & Electrical Support

 

Attending to leaks, blockages, and plumbing-related issues.

Performing minor electrical repairs (replacing light bulbs, sockets, switches, and assisting with wiring tasks where qualified).

Ensuring backup power systems, such as generators, are inspected and reported on regularly.

Safety & Compliance

 

Ensuring all work complies with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations.

Assisting with fire safety equipment inspections (extinguishers, alarms, sprinklers).

Responding promptly to urgent repair and emergency situations to minimize downtime.

Coordination & Support

 

Assisting external contractors with access, supervision, and safety compliance.

Supporting hospital management in maintaining clean, functional, and safe working environments.

Working closely with the facilities and operations team to prioritize tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

 

Experience & Skills

Proven experience as a handyman, maintenance technician, or facilities assistant (hospital/healthcare experience is a strong advantage).

Physical & Personal Attributes

 

Physically fit with the ability to bend, lift, climb, and carry heavy equipment when required.

Ability to work under pressure, especially in emergency situations.

Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a professional and respectful approach.

Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

 

High School Certificate (or equivalent) – essential.

Trade/technical certification in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or similar – highly advantageous.

Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety standards – required.

A valid driver’s license – beneficial.

Good working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, tiling, and general building maintenance.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems quickly and effectively.

Familiarity with using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically.
