Purpose:
The Registered Nurse (RN) will coordinate, supervise, and deliver comprehensive nursing care in the Sub-Acute Hospital. The RN is accountable for ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centred care through direct clinical practice, supervision of Enrolled Nurses, Nurse Assistance and care workers, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. This role is critical in supporting patient recovery, rehabilitation, and the transition from acute to independent living.
Key Performance Areas:
- Clinical Nursing Care & Supervision - Deliver comprehensive, holistic nursing care within the RN scope of practice. Administer and monitor medication, treatments, and procedures safely. Supervise and guide nurses in providing quality patient care. Ensure accurate handovers and continuity of care across shifts.
- Patient Monitoring & Management - Conduct thorough nursing assessments and monitor patient progress. Identify, manage, and escalate patient risks, complications, or emergencies promptly. Collaborate with doctors, therapists, and allied professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Document all nursing care, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timeously.
- Infection Prevention, Safety & Quality Control - Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff and visitors. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with clinical standards. Monitor equipment and stock to support safe, effective patient care.
- Team Collaboration - Allocate nursing tasks appropriately based on scope of practice and skill level. Foster effective teamwork and communication within the nursing and multidisciplinary team. Participate actively in ward meetings, case discussions, and patient reviews.
- Professional Ethics & Development - Adhere strictly to SANC regulations, professional codes of conduct, and hospital values. Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and respect at all times. Demonstrate accountability and professionalism in all clinical and administrative duties. Commit to continuous professional development and stay updated with best nursing practices.
Requirements:
- Grade 12
- Registered Nurse qualification with valid SANC registration
- Minimum 2 - 3 years' private hospital experience ( experience in a sub-acute, step-down, or rehabilitation setting will be advantageous)
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to supervise and guide junior nursing staff
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
