Communications Intern

6 Month Internship Programme

The SAMRC and the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) seek to jointly appoint a Communications Intern within the EDCTP Africa Office based at our SAMRC Head Office in Parow, Cape Town.

About the role:

The Communications Intern will assist in the daily implementation of the EDCTP Association’s Communications Strategy. The role offers hands-on experience in digital communications, content development, and event support, providing a strong learning opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional interested in global health and international cooperation.

Responsibilities:

Draft and schedule social media posts (LinkedIn, X).
Assist in preparing the monthly newsletter.
Create simple visuals and infographics for online platforms.
Support website updates (news items, event listings, project highlights).
Assist with logistics and communications for events and webinars.
Provide administrative and communications support to the EDCTP Alumni Network platform.

Job Requirements
Core Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Media, Public Relations, Global Health, or related field.
Strong writing and editing skills in English.
Familiarity with social media platforms.
Interest in global health, infectious diseases, or international partnerships.
Added Advantage:

Knowledge of newsletter tools (Mailchimp, etc.).
Familiarity with website CMS (WordPress, Drupal).
Basic design/layout skills (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator).
Any prior internship or volunteering experience in communications.
