Purpose of the Role
The OHS Officer / Manager will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and company safety procedures across all construction projects (civil, building, roads, water, electrical, and general construction).
The role requires a qualified OHS professional registered with SACPCMP, with strong safety leadership and the ability to ensure a safe working environment across workshop, plant, and site-based environments throughout South Africa
Role Expectations
Minimum 3-5 years proven experience as OHS Officer / Safety
Officer / OHS Rep in construction industry (Civil, Building, Mechanical and General
construction).
Minimum Qualification Requirements
· National Diploma in Safety Management or higher.
· Registered as OHS Officer / Manager with SACPCMP
(Mandatory / Non-negotiable)
· Valid driver’s licence required.
Role Expectations
• Implement and monitor OHS policies, procedures, and safe
work procedures across all construction projects (civil, building, roads,
water, mechanical).
• Ensure compliance with OHS Act, Construction Regulations,
COIDA, and other relevant safety legislation and client requirements.
• Conduct daily site safety inspections, risk assessments
(HIRA), toolbox talks, safety audits, and site walkabouts.
• Identify hazards, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and
enforce corrective actions and stop-work authority where required.
• Investigate incidents / accidents, near misses, and
implement preventive and corrective measures.
• Maintain safety files, registers, checklists, incident
reports, and all safety documentation as per SACPCMP and client requirements.
• Conduct safety inductions, training, safety meetings, and
promote safety awareness campaigns across all disciplines.
• Ensure correct use and availability of PPE, and safe use
of plant, tools, equipment, and machinery.
• Liaise with Site Agents, Foremen, Engineers, subcontractors, client safety representatives, and Department of Labour.
• Assist with emergency preparedness, first aid, fire fighting, and evacuation drills.
• Complete safety inspection records, daily reports, and other required documentation accurately.
• Travel to other provinces for operational, project, maintenance, or emergency work assignments when required.
