Description
The Department of Environmental, Water and Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Science has a one-year fixedterm position available for an Academic Technician at the Arcadia Campus.
INSTRUCTIONS: Applicants are required to submit, together with the CVs, a fully completed standardized

Identity Document. Failure to comply with this instruction will disqualify the candidate. Candidates may be
subjected to appropriate psychometric testing and other selection instruments.
1. CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS
• Assist in the preparation, execution, and troubleshooting of undergraduate laboratory experiments
• General Maintenance of Laboratory equipment and Infrastructure
• General Laboratory Management
• Health and Safety compliance of the laboratories
• Organizing and Supervision of Field trips
• Work closely with academic staff and students
• Supervision of work-integrated learning (WIL) students

2. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ACADEMIC TECHNICIAN
2.1 Academic qualifications:
• An NQF level 6 Diploma in Geology
2.2. Experience:
• Three (3) years relevant experience
• Proven record of undergraduate tutoring and/or laboratory experimental work and/or research
experience at a tertiary institution and/or industry related experience
2.3. Knowledge Skills
• Laboratory Management
• GLP (Good Laboratory Practice)
• TUT policies and Procedures.
• SHE requirements, policies, and legislation
2.4 Skills
• Communication
• Computer Literacy
• Handling, Organising and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Conducting of practical sessions
• Interpersonal
