About the Job
The HR Officer will provide comprehensive HR support to ensure effective recruitment, employee engagement, compliance, and staff wellness. The position focuses on fostering a positive work environment and aligning HR practices with the organisation's mission to empower and reintegrate vulnerable children.

Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Selection

Coordinate and manage the end-to-end recruitment process to ensure prompt placement of qualified candidates.

Conduct reference and qualification checks before confirming employment offers.

Onboarding & Offboarding

Administer employment contracts and ensure new staff complete all required policies, forms, and document submissions within 5 days of employment.

Facilitate smooth onboarding and offboarding processes.

Policy & Compliance

Ensure compliance with HR policies, labour laws, and organisational guidelines.

Update, maintain, and enforce adherence to the HR Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Submit Forms 29 and 30 to the Department of Social Development (DSD) for new hires within 30 days and follow up for feedback.

Employee Qualification & Registration

Conduct annual staff audits to verify professional qualifications and registrations.

Ensure all professional staff, including social workers, auxiliary workers, and child and youth care workers, are qualified and registered with SACSSP.

Ensure annual SACSSP registrations and compliance with professional supervision requirements.

Job Descriptions and Performance Management

Ensure all employees have job descriptions and coordinate the probation period with managers

Champion and implement job grading initiatives within the organisation.

Oversee annual performance reviews and staff development plans to enhance employee growth and satisfaction.

Employee Relations & Disciplinary Processes

Draft disciplinary warnings and manage related documentation.

Conduct investigations into workplace grievances and disciplinary matters.

Coordinate and facilitate disciplinary hearings, ensuring compliance with legal and organisational procedures.

Provide guidance to management on disciplinary actions and conflict resolution.

Training & Development

Implement training initiatives and manage the annual training plan.

Staff Wellness

Promote and support staff wellness programmes and team building to enhance overall employee well-being.

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain and update HR databases and ensure accurate record-keeping.

Draft employment contracts for the Executive Director’s signature.

Ensure all staff understand and comply with the Code of Conduct.

Requirements

Diploma/Degree in Human Resource Management or related field.

2–3 years of HR generalist experience, preferably in the NGO sector.

Knowledge of South African Labour Laws and best practices.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional demeanour.

Proficiency in HR systems and tools, such as ESS or VIP.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
