About the role
A major player in the South African red meat value chain is seeking a strategic Procurement Manager for their livestock sourcing and abattoir operations. Based in Cullinan, this mainly office-bound role bridges corporate agribusiness strategy and field operations, reporting directly to the Livestock Director.
key responsibilities1. procurement & producer relations
Develop and implement livestock procurement strategies for field personnel.
Nurture and expand supplier networks across commercial and Free Range (FR) protocols.
Coordinate with feed manufacturers and medicine companies to support supply strategies.
Manage live-weight and carcass purchase price strategies to protect margins.
2. daily slaughter & logistics management
Full accountability for livestock needs: slaughter-ready cattle/lamb, weaners, and informal markets.
Optimize weekly slaughter and logistics schedules for abattoirs to maximize plant utilization.
Liaise with field buyers and producers to ensure seamless delivery timelines.
Requirements
Education: Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or Agricultural Management. (A MUST HAVE/ NON-NEGOTIABLE)
Meat Industry: 5 - 7 years operational experience (abattoir/livestock processing).
Managerial: 5 - 10 years in an agricultural management capacity.
Procurement: 5 - 7 years commercial procurement or agricultural buying experience.
Skills: Strong red meat trend awareness, financial acumen, and sharp negotiation skills.
