Description
The Department of Nature Conservation in the Faculty of Science has a permanent position of Full Professor at the TUT Pretoria Campus.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS/CORE FUNCTIONS
• Provide academic leadership and mentor junior academic staff in research, innovation, and teaching & learning.
• Supervise master's and doctoral students to successful completion; a proven record of graduating doctoral students is essential.
• Maintain a sustained and high-impact record of research publications in DHET-accredited peer-reviewed journals.
• Attract external funding for research and generate third-stream income through contracts and innovation.
• Generate considerable peer-reviewed outputs, which may include patents, prototypes, and other high-value outcomes.
• Play a leading role in developing and revising the curriculum in collaboration with industry and stakeholders, aligned with the department's strategic vision.
• Provide leadership in curriculum design, development, and implementation.
• Participate in and provide administrative leadership in departmental, faculty, and institutional committees.
• Liaise with industry and other stakeholders regarding research and community engagement projects.
• Develop learning material, integrate appropriate technology in teaching and learning, and deliver high-quality lectures.
• Assess student learning outcomes using appropriate methods in line with TUT Policy.
• Conduct student consultation and engagements.
• Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Department.
Minimum Requirements:
Academic qualifications:
• A Doctoral qualification (NQF level 10) in Nature Conservation, Wildlife Management, Zoology, Botany, Ecology, Conservation Biology.
Experience:
• A proven record of five (5) years teaching and research experience at a tertiary institution and/or industry experience
• 5 years relevant experience at Associate Professor level and compliance with the policy on Academic appointments and or promotions.
• A proven record of masters and doctoral students supervision
• Graduation of doctoral students is compulsory
• A proven record of research outputs in DHET accredited journals
• A NRF rating will be a strong recommendation
Registration with professional body (if applicable):
• Registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions will be a strong recommendations.
