Department of Visual Communication at TUT invites applications for a FullTime Senior Lecturer in Integrated Communication Design at the Arts Campus.

Critical Performance Areas
• Teach: Deliver both theoretical and practical modules engaging studio-based,
modules in Integrated Communication Design.
• Develop, review, and quality assure curricula aligned to national qualification
standards and industry developments.
• Supervise postgraduate projects and research in both academic and advanced
practice streams.
• Provide academic leadership in ICD, mentor staff, and contribute to scholarly
work and publications.
• Lead industry partnerships, work-integrated learning projects, and real-world
design collaborations.
• Innovate and integrate emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and
community engagement.
• Manage academic administration, including module coordination, assessments,
reviews, and programme development.
Minimum Requirements
1. Academic qualifications
• A PhD / D Tech in Graphic Design, Multimedia or a relevant qualification in the
visual arts at NQF Level 10.
• Evidence of advanced practice expertise OR academic research outputs in designrelated fields.
2. Experience
• Minimum three (3) years teaching at lecturing level.
• Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, module coordinator and
assessment design over multiple year levels.
• Proven experience in postgraduate supervision and/or co-supervision.
• A sustained record of research outputs and/or creative outputs over recent years.
• Experience in industry engagement, including live briefs, partnerships or
professional practice integration.

3. Knowledge and Skills
Strong evidence of teaching excellence, including:
• Development of study guides and learning materials.
• Continuous curriculum improvement.
• Alignment with institutional teaching and learning frameworks.
Demonstrated ability to integrate theory and practice, particularly within:
• Contemporary communication design.
• Interdisciplinary or intermedial environments.
• Digital and emerging media.
Proven research capability, including:
• Peer- reviewed publications and/or creative outputs.
• Conference participation and scholarly dissemination.
• Engagement with national and/ or international research networks.
Experience in academic leadership roles, such as:
• Subject or module coordinator.
• Programme development.
• Mentorship of junior staff.
Active participation in academic citizenship, including:
• Committee involvement.
• External moderation and examining.
• Professional or academic bodies.
• Ability to contribute to community, industry and professional engagements,
demonstrating impact beyond the institution.
• Competence in digital platforms, design software and learning management.
• Postgraduate supervision and/or co-supervision experience.
